Our Story

It was late March in 1986 and Michael Thomas had just returned home from Hartswood Tennis Club. Looking out of his window at his neighbour’s rather sad and neglected garden he pondered on what to do with his life following his redundancy from a senior management role at the BBC.

His friend and neighbour worked for the Foreign Office, and he had been posted overseas on Diplomatic duties some four months earlier. His house had remained empty ever since and a local Estate Agent had been unsuccessful in trying to find tenants for the property.

Later that day Michael called his friend for a catch up and offered to give the garden a tidy up. His friend joked about how he wished his Estate Agent was as conscientious as his neighbour. Two months later and Hartswood Property Management was born, a rental specialist taking pride in looking after property like a caring neighbour and whose Landlord’s often became their friends.

We have been with Hartswood since 2012 with a management agreement of our house in London, after having been with a mainstream competitor for a number of years.

Changing to Hartswood with its small, friendly and dedicated team, has been the best decision we have taken since we decided to let our house.

One knows who does what and communication is excellent, unlike with the previous management company, where there was a continuous rotation of staff and whenever there were problems with the house and appliances, there was no efficient response from them nor action taken. As a consequence, tenants and ourselves were left angry and extremely frustrated.

Property inspection reports are regularly prepared by Stella, she has therefore first hand knowledge of the property, whilst with the previous management company this task was outsourced, thus the property manager had no awareness at all about the state of the property.

Communication with Stella and Brian is very good and any problems raised by tenants and ourselves are dealt with promptly, whilst Rob responsible for finance, is very efficient with monthly financial reporting and the timely transfer of rental income.

When we are informed that there are issues raised by tenants, and when major refurbishments were carried out, Stella proved to be very effective in arranging quotes and seeing the works through to completion. Examples of major works carried out successfully were the replacement of the gas boiler, the painting of the exterior wood work at the front of the house and repairs to the façade and replacement of the gutters.

We recommend Hartswood highly enough to find suitable tenants and to fully manage your property in a very satisfactory manner.

The whole team was particularly good during the trials of covid, keeping everything going, liaising with all their clients ;renters and letters, and I wish them all well in their new offices.

I am the owner of a small apartment in London and have been very happy with the service provided by Hartswood since I signed with them almost 30 years ago. As a non-resident landlord it has been a huge relief to have the team deal with all issues which arise with owning property. This, of course, doesn't just mean the rental of the property but has also included general maintenance, replacement of items due to wear and tear and refurbishment.
